I am so proud to be the only Zone 5 candidate endorsed by both of the PCC unions: the Portland Community College Federation of Faculty and Academic Professionals, AFT Local 2277 (PCCFFAP) and the Portland Community College Federation of Classified Employees, AFT Local 3922 (PCCFCE).
I know that a supported faculty and staff are critical for student success. I will advocate for good wages and job security for faculty and staff, the hiring of more faculty of color so that PCC's faculty better reflects its student body, and to keep PCC affordable and accessible for students.
When I decided to pursue a college degree after the Army, my first stop was PCC. The Sylvania Campus was nearby and I could attend school at night after work. I didn't know what to expect. But from day one, the faculty and staff at PCC made me feel supported, welcomed, and they inspired a love and excitement about learning that I had not known before. I had been a so-so student in high school, but at PCC I thrived. My professors were engaging and the curriculum was fascinating. It was because of the outstanding job they did that I attribute my success at PCC, Portland State University, and later Baylor University.
Thank you, PCC.
Now I want to pay it back. I am running for this position because I want PCC to provide that same amazing, life-changing experience to others. And because PCC can't do this without the hard work, dedication, and contributions of its faculty and staff, I will work to ensure we invest in PCC's team of dedicated faculty and staff.
Nobody knows PCC quite like the dedicated people who work there. I am humbled by the PCCFFAP's and PCCFCE's endorsement of my candidacy.
